Simplify

Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. —Matthew 6:34

In a radio interview, a basketball superstar was asked about his knack for making the game-winning shot in crucial situations. The reporter asked how he was able to be so calm in such pressure-packed moments. His answer was that he tried to simplify the situation. “You only have to make one shot,” the player replied. One shot. That is the essence of simplifying a difficult situation. Focus only on what is in front of you right now. Don’t worry about the expectations of your coach or teammates. Simplify.

Recognizing that the challenges of life can be both overwhelming and suffocating, Jesus urged us to take matters in hand by simplifying. He said, “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matt. 6:34). This was His wise conclusion to His teaching on the debilitating power of worry. Worry doesn’t accomplish anything positive; it just adds to the sense that we are drowning in the troubles we are facing. We must take things as they come—one day at a time—and trust Him for the wisdom to respond properly.

If you feel overwhelmed by life, do what you can today and then entrust the rest to Him. As Jesus said, “Each day has enough trouble of its own” (niv).

Don’t worry for your future needs,
It will only bring you sorrow;
But give them to the Lord instead—
He’ll take care of your tomorrow. —Sper

We lose the joy of living in the present when we worry about the future.

A simple act of Faith

The passage below is an account of how God blessed our simple act of faith...

My aunt and uncle are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary tomorrow. My sister and I spent much of our childhood with them.

My sister stays at Mumbai. She badly wanted to be here with us to celebrate the anniversary. Since the function was decided all of a sudden, we couldn't book the ticket well in advance. The train ticket was in the Waiting List. The last one week was irritating, because the waiting list was moving so slowly. We checked the ticket status everyday. And we prayed everyday.

On Wednesday, after having unsuccessfully tried to book a ticket through Tatkal, my sister just told me she was just going to pray and pack her clothes in faith.

The train was supposed to leave yesterday. My sister had to leave for the railway station directly from her office. She took her packed clothes to her office! When asked about it, she replied her colleagues that she was trying to leave for home.

When I called her up yesterday morning, the ticket was still in the Waiting list. We hoped for the best and hung up.

I usually call up a Prayer Support when I'm in serious trouble. Why not now, I thought. The idea seemed silly - calling up a Prayer Support because you wanted your sister to come home. There are millions of people travelling at this moment, and to ask to pray for one person who wants to travel is extremely childish and................... silly!

Nevertheless, I called up. The person at the other end, though surprised by my request, prayed for me.

An hour passed, and my sister called up saying the ticket had been confirmed. Yeah, and her entire office was glad for her!

My sister packed her clothes in faith, and I asked for prayer no matter how silly my request was.

God blessed our simple act of faith. As I'm typing this, my sister is travelling, she's just a couple of hours away from our home.

I realize, that sometimes, we need to express our faith in very simple steps.

When you read this, please do keep my uncle and aunt in your prayers. This is the same uncle who had a heart attack, two years back. God, in His mercy, has added these precious years to my uncle's life, and has helped him to live to see this day come true!

Thanks and God bless!

When you are low on hope...

There's a vast different between the books men make and the Book that makes man.
Will you make time for the Book of Life today?

When You Are Low on Hope…

Water. All Noah can see is water. The evening sun sinks into it. The clouds are reflected in it. His boat is surrounded by it. Water. Water to the north. Water to the south. Water to the east. Water to the west. Water.

He sent a raven on a scouting mission; it never returned. He sent a dove. It came back shivering and spent, having found no place to roost. Then, just this morning, he tried again. With a prayer he let it go and watched until the bird was no bigger than a speck on a window.

All day he looked for the dove’s return.

Now the sun is setting, and the sky is darkening, and he has come to look one final time, but all he sees is water. Water to the north. Water to the south. Water to the east. Water to the…

You know the feeling. You have stood where Noah stood. You’ve known your share of floods. Flooded by sorrow at the cemetery, stress at the office, anger at the disability in your body or the inability of your spouse. You’ve seen the floodwater rise, and you’ve likely seen the sun set on your hopes as well. You’ve been on Noah’s boat.

And you’ve needed what Noah needed; you’ve needed some hope. You’re not asking for a helicopter rescue, but the sound of one would be nice. Hope doesn’t promise an instant solution but rather the possibility of an eventual one. Sometimes all we need is a little hope.

That’s all Noah needed. And that’s all Noah received.

Here is how the Bible describes the moment: “When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf!” (Gen. 8:11).

An olive leaf. Noah would have been happy to have the bird but to have the leaf! This leaf was more than foliage; this was promise. The bird brought more than a piece of a tree; it brought hope. For isn’t that what hope is? Hope is an olive leaf — evidence of dry land after a flood. Proof to the dreamer that dreaming is worth the risk.

To all the Noahs of the world, to all who search the horizon for a fleck of hope, Jesus proclaims, “Yes!” And he comes. He comes as a dove. He comes bearing fruit from a distant land, from our future home. He comes with a leaf of hope.

Have you received yours? Don’t think your ark is too isolated. Don’t think your flood is too wide. Receive his hope, won’t you? Receive it because you need it. Receive it so you can share it.

What do you suppose Noah did with his? What do you think he did with the leaf? Did he throw it overboard and forget about it? Do you suppose he stuck it in his pocket and saved it for a scrapbook? Or do you think he let out a whoop and assembled the troops and passed it around like the Hope Diamond it was?

Certainly he whooped. That’s what you do with hope. What do you do with olive leaves? You pass them around. You don’t stick them in your pocket. You give them to the ones you love. Love always hopes. “Love … bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Cor. 13:4–7).

Love has hope in you.

The aspiring young author was in need of hope. More than one person had told him to give up. “Getting published is impossible,” one mentor said. “Unless you are a national celebrity, publishers won’t talk to you.” Another warned, “Writing takes too much time. Besides, you don’t want all your thoughts on paper.”

Initially he listened. He agreed that writing was a waste of effort and turned his attention to other projects. But somehow the pen and pad were bourbon and Coke to the wordaholic. He’d rather write than read. So he wrote. How many nights did he pass on that couch in the corner of the apartment reshuffling his deck of verbs and nouns? And how many hours did his wife sit with him? He wordsmithing. She cross-stitching. Finally a manuscript was finished. Crude and laden with mistakes but finished.

She gave him the shove. “Send it out. What’s the harm?”

So out it went. Mailed to fifteen different publishers. While the couple waited, he wrote. While he wrote, she stitched. Neither expecting much, both hoping everything. Responses began to fill the mailbox. “I’m sorry, but we don’t accept unsolicited manuscripts.” “We must return your work. Best of luck.” “Our catalog doesn’t have room for unpublished authors.”

I still have those letters. Somewhere in a file. Finding them would take some time. Finding Denalyn’s cross-stitch, however, would take none. To see it, all I do is lift my eyes from this monitor and look on the wall. “Of all those arts in which the wise excel, nature’s chief masterpiece is writing well.”

She gave it to me about the time the fifteenth letter arrived. A publisher had said yes. That letter is also framed. Which of the two is more meaningful? The gift from my wife or the letter from the publisher? The gift, hands down. For in giving the gift, Denalyn gave hope.
Love does that. Love extends an olive leaf to the loved one and says, “I have hope in you.”

Love is just as quick to say, “I have hope for you.”

You can say those words. You are a flood survivor. By God’s grace you have found your way to dry land. You know what it’s like to see the waters subside. And since you do, since you passed through a flood and lived to tell about it, you are qualified to give hope to someone else.

Are you important?

Never despise little things.
A lantern can do what the sun can never....Shine in the night!

You Are Important…

Don't say you're not important,
It simply isn't true,
The fact that you were born,
Is proof, God has a plan for you.

The path may seem unclear right now,
But one day you will see,
That all that came before,
Was truly meant to be.

God wrote the book that is your life,
That's all you need to know.
Each day that you are living,
Was written long ago.

God only writes best sellers,
So be proud of who you are,
Your character is important,
In this book you are the "Star."

Enjoy the novel as it reads,
It will stand throughout the ages,
Savor each chapter as you go,
Taking time to turn the pages.

Rejoice in God’s Message for you:
“Thus says Yahweh who made you, who formed you in the womb, he will help you. Do not be afraid.” (Isaiah 44:2)

Let your Light shine

A rich man is not one who has the most,
but one who needs the least.
Have a RICH weekend!
Let Your Light Shine…
Let your light shine before men... (Matthew 5:16)

A man is being tailgated by a woman who's in a hurry. He comes to an intersection and when the light turns yellow he hits the brakes. The woman behind him goes ballistic. She honks her horn, yells profanities and gestures with her finger. As she's ranting and raving someone taps on her window. To her horror she looks up and sees a policeman. He invites her out of her car and takes her to the station where she's searched, fingerprinted and put in a cell.

After a couple of hours she's released and the arresting officer gives her personal effects and says, 'I'm very sorry for the mistake, ma'am. I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn and using ugly gestures and foul language. I noticed the 'What would Jesus do?' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' license plate holder, the 'Follow me to Sunday School' window sign and the peace emblem on your trunk, so I naturally assumed you had stolen the car.'

Obviously he was following a Christian who wasn't doing a very good job at following Christ.

The world gets turned off by people who have Christian bumper stickers on their cars, Christian books on their shelves, Christian stations on their radios and TVs, Christian jewelery around their necks, Christian videos for their kids, Christian magazines for their coffee tables, .... but who don't have the life of Jesus in their bones or the love of Jesus in their hearts.

What's the answer?

'Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.’ (Matthew 5:16)

WWJD

While speaking on Holiness, I am just reminded of what the priest spoke in the homily this Sunday...

Follow the principle of W.W.J.D in your life, and you will be holy. While I was wondering what new theory this is, he said...

What Would Jesus Do...
While you are confronted with anything, just think WWJD and decide. Your life will be holy...

What if Jesus visited you today?

I came across this mail by Premgin... It left me thinking about my relationship with God. The mail is as follows...

----------------------------

Dear Siblings,

This is a strange set of things that might happen if Jesus Decide to visit many of the Youth ( no one is an exception ) at Home/Hostel. It would be real rush,a real rush to mask the Depth of Worldly affections and adorations I have in Life. A rush to hide my addictions. Lets see :-

If Jesus came to your home to spend a day or two - If He came unexpectedly, I wonder what you'd do. Oh, I know you'd give your nicest room to such an honored guest, and all the food you'd serve Him would be the very best, and you would keep assuring Him you're glad to have Him there - That serving Him in your home is a joy beyond compare.

But when you saw Him coming :-

  • Would you meet Him at the door with arms outstretched in welcome to your heavenly Visitor? Or would you rush to change your clothes before you let Him in ? ( Man is so addicted to looks, appearance rather that to spiritual gifts and personality)
  • Would you have to hide some magazines and put the Bible where they'd been? (Have u been in Love with those Film and Fashion Magazines that were the root cause of your sexual sins and lustful thoughts.hmm Jesus will be depressed my angel)
  • Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn't heard, And wish you hadn't uttered that last loud, hasty word?( Media does play a major part in our habits and culture. So the next time you turn on a Radio or TV think like this . Will Jesus be with me when i watch this ?
  • Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out? ( Who knows acting better than his Kids ? lol )
  • Would you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about? I wonder if the Savior spent a day or two with you, Would you go right on doing the things you always do? Would you go right on saying the things you always say? Would life for you continue as it does from day to day? ( Whatever u do ,he know ur present and the past,he know about each moment of ur life,so dont try to hide, try to live a Anointed Life)
  • Would your family's conversation keep its usual pace, and would you find it hard each meal to say table grace? ( First of all the fighting has to stop at the dining table,Hope mom and dad would never argue over the table, at least for Jesus sake )
  • Would you sing songs you always sing, and reads the books you read, and let Him know the things on which your mind and spirit feed? Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you'd planned to go, Or would you, maybe, change your plans for just a day or so? ( Oh my god ,its time to trash those crazy books and unhealthy music CDs )
  • Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest friends, Or would you hope they'd stay away until His visit ends? ( Am i ashamed to say I love Jesus to my friends ? )
  • Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on, Or would you sigh with great relief when He as last was gone? ( Its for you to decide ,he surely love to stay with you )

It might be interesting to know the things that you would do If Jesus came in person to spend some time with you. Many of us will have many things to hide, right from the usual wording that comes out of our mouth to our family relations.

So lets start thinking now How Should I be for Jesus ? Lets seek the Holy Spirit guidance to grow more and more closer and deeper in the image of Christ.

The Nail

As the story goes, they built a new church building and people came from far and wide to see it. They admired its beauty! Up on the roof, a little nail heard the people praising everything about the lovely structure-except the nail! No one even knew he was there, and he became angry and jealous.

“If I am that insignificant, nobody will miss me if I quit!” So the nail then released its hold, slid down the roof, and fell in the mud.

That night it rained and rained. Soon, the shingle that had no nail blew away, and the roof began to leak. The water streaked the walls and the beautiful murals. The plaster began to fall, the carpet was stained, and the pulpit Bible was ruined by water. All this because a little nail decided to quit!

But what of the nail? While holding the shingle, it was obscure but it was also useful. Buried in the mud it was just as obscure, but now it was useless and would soon be eaten up by rust!

The moral of the story: EVERY MEMBER IS IMPORTANT TO THE CHURCH!

You may, like the nail, feel obscure at times, but just like the nail, your absence is felt. When you are not present for worship, in some way the body of Christ hurts. We are ALL a part of the Lord’s ministry.
